Repair a computer that won’t boot

1. See what your computer is doing when you try to start it.

Does your computer not turn on at all? Does it make a sound when you try to start it? Do you see any lights that blink or come on when you try to start the computer? 4. Test the battery of the computer.

  • Click on Next.
  • Follow the instructions and click on Reset.

Mac:

  • Make sure the Time Machine disk drive is connected.
  • Restart your Mac and hold down the Command and R keys while your Mac starts up.
  • Select your language and click on the arrow icon.
  • Click Reinstall macOS. (To remove your hard drive, click Disk Utility and select your hard drive. Then click Remove).
  • Enter your username and password if required.
  • Click on Continue.

11. Replace or repair your computer.

If you’ve tried everything and your computer can’t turn on or boot, you may need to have it repaired or replaced. If your computer is older, it may be cheaper to buy a new one instead of having it fixed. Otherwise, you can take it to a local computer repair shop. If your computer is still under warranty, contact the manufacturer or the point of purchase to find out what to do to repair or replace it.
