If you did not know already then MOT stands for Ministry of transport. It is basically a test which is done on annual basis for the vehicles which are used on the roads. This test is usually done after every 3 years for every single vehicle. And if your vehicle does not pass the test then it is not allowed to be used on the roads. Hence, owners take their vehicle for regular servicing before they actually take it for their MOT test.
1. The difference between regular motorcycle servicing and motorcycle MOT?
Many people consider the motorcycle MOT and regular motorcycle servicing to be the same thing. However, this is not the case. What many people fail to consider is that regular motorcycle servicing is in which you get servicing of your motorcycle done to keep it in a good condition. Whereas MOT is a test done by the government officials which becomes compulsory on your vehicle after every 3 years.
When a car passes an MOT then it does not necessarily mean that the car is in very good condition. But it usually means that the car is in a relatively okay condition hence it was able to pass the MOT. However, it does not mean that once your car has passed MOT then you don’t need to get it serviced. It can also happen that you did not get it regularly checked but after some time it started to fail mechanically, or the oil needed changing or the air filter, or the fuel filter or the spark plugs need to be replaced.
Getting these services done for your car will not only enable it to run smoothly but will also make your car much more economical. This is because when you get its regular servicing done then the chances of it randomly breaking down become very low and it gives you a smooth ride.
2. What if I get regular servicing done but I don’t get an MOT done?
Regular servicing and MOT are both important in their own ways. Like as already mentioned, regular servicing is required for keeping your vehicle in good condition and an MOT is required for being able to run your car smoothly on the road. It is a legal requirement and if you don’t have a valid MOT test then your cars insurance also becomes invalid. If you have any accident then your insurance will not be able to cover the costs. Also without a valid MOT, you are not allowed to park your car on the road.

3. Is MOT really that necessary?
If you ask me then I would definitely say that MOT is very necessary. You might have noticed some vehicles on the road which produce black smoke through the silencers. These vehicles produce such types of smoke because they have not been serviced for a long time and are the major contributor to air pollution. To restrict such types of vehicles from running on the road, MOT of the vehicles is necessary. Hence, getting an MOT done is both in the favor of the vehicle and the environment.
