Because it spreads more easily over long distances with relatively low loss and is safer for the same voltage as touch.
Claim:
AC power used in most electrical wiring for many reasons. But the most important is how easily it can convert from one voltage to another. DC is harder to do this. To convert direct current, electronic circuits used to generate alternating current. Which then convert by a transformer. And routed back to direct current. A large amount of alternating current can convert to almost any required voltage with very little energy loss by means of an electrical transformer. Coils with closely intertwined magnetic fields. All wires at “room temperature” have resistance. dry type transformer so they heat up when transported through air. The heat (transfer loss) it generates is proportional to the square of the current and with resistance:
strong
and 2R to minimize energy losses, it is important to keep resistance and current low, and low current is especially important because it has an exponential effect on losses.
Validity
AGAINST ⁇ and, so for a given power the voltage should be high while the current remains low. Large transformers are used to run transmission lines at high voltage to keep losses to a minimum. However, high voltage is dangerous, especially for life, so bringing it into the household is not an acceptable risk. AC current can quickly and efficiently converted to a relatively safe voltage on local transformers near the area of application. In DC, it’s not as easy as it is cheap.
Other factors are:
At the same voltage, direct current is more lethal than alternating current because it is less relaxed than touching because the voltage does not cross zero. (Muscles contract with constant DC energy). Electrolytic corrosion is more of a problem in DC.
DC arcs “switch off” not so fast (because the voltage does not cross zero). AC induction motors are easy to manufacture and maintain. DC motors require a commutator and brushes as well as complex electronic switching.
