How Can I Get a Student Visa for the USA?

Foreigners wishing to study in the United States must apply for an F1, M1 or J1 student visa. The document must be processed in the future student’s country of origin, and will allow him or her to enter the country temporarily. The student visa application process is very simple. But you need to start your application well in advance and gather all the necessary documentation.

In the United States there are several types of visas. Student visas fall into the category of non-immigrant visas and such cases are handle by non-immigrant visa attorney. In order to obtain these visas, the applicant must be a student the entire time they are in the country.

  • The F1 visa is used for full-time students at an accredited university or college, which awards a higher degree.
  • The M1 visa is used for vocational studies. The studies are short and technical and do not offer a university degree, only certificates. If you want to continue more advanced studies you must change to an F1 status.
  • The J1 visa is used for exchange students. The idea is to promote learning in education, arts and sciences. It can also be used by students with or without a sponsor, and must be full-time students.
